Ozempic (semaglutide) costs €124.95 a month at Healthwave for the 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg and 1 mg pens, and €219.95 a month for the 2 mg pen. Each pen holds 4 weekly doses, so one pen lasts 4 weeks. You need a prescription, and a Healthwave pharmacist checks every prescription before we supply it.

What is in each Ozempic pack?
- 1 pre-filled Ozempic pen that gives 4 weekly doses.
- 4 NovoFine Plus needles, one for each injection.

After you first use a pen, you can use it for up to 6 weeks.
How much does Ozempic cost per month?
One pen covers 4 weekly doses, which is about one month of treatment. That is about €31.24 a week for the 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg and 1 mg doses, and about €54.99 a week for the 2 mg dose.
Treatment starts at 0.25 mg once a week for 4 weeks, then goes up to 0.5 mg. Your prescriber can increase the dose to 1 mg and then to 2 mg, with at least 4 weeks at each step. Because the 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg and 1 mg pens are the same price, your monthly cost stays at €124.95 unless you move to 2 mg.
Can I get Ozempic on the medical card or Drugs Payment Scheme?
Only for type 2 diabetes. The HSE covers Ozempic for type 2 diabetes for people with a full medical card (GMS) or a Long-Term Illness card for diabetes. Ozempic is not covered by the Drugs Payment Scheme, and the HSE does not cover it for weight loss. If you are not covered, the private prices above apply.

Ozempic or Wegovy: what is the difference?
Ozempic and Wegovy contain the same medicine, semaglutide, and are both made by Novo Nordisk. They are licensed for different conditions and come in different doses.

How to get Ozempic from Healthwave
- Get a prescription from your GP or an online doctor. Ozempic is a prescription-only medicine.
- Ask your doctor to send the prescription to healthwave.dundrum@healthmail.ie by Healthmail, or bring a paper prescription to our pharmacy in Dundrum.
- A Healthwave pharmacist checks the prescription. We then text you a secure link to choose delivery and pay.
- We deliver your pen in refrigerated packaging, or you collect it free from Dundrum.

Delivery and storage

Keep unused pens in the fridge (2°C to 8°C) and do not freeze them. After you first use a pen, you can keep it in the fridge or below 30°C for up to 6 weeks. Keep the pen cap on to protect it from light.

What if I miss a dose of Ozempic?
If it is within 5 days of the missed dose, take it as soon as you remember. If more than 5 days have passed, skip the missed dose and take the next one on your usual day. Ask your pharmacist if you are not sure.
